Toshiba Thrive Takes on the Tablet Challenge 1Toshiba, one of leading manufacturers of personal computers in the world, will now be entering into the tablet market by presenting their latest innovation – the Toshiba Thrive. Now that the competition is so crowded with brands like Apple, Motorola, Samsung, HTC and many more, Toshiba however, brings a different perspective to the table by making its tablet more like of a PC when it comes to its technical specifications.

The Toshiba Tablet has added some unique features to make it distinct from its competitors. First is the full sized HDMI slot and USB port. Since well known tablets today has embedded both micro SD and USB, they installed the regular type of support to easily insert the SD right into the tablet and it also has a micro SD slot to make the package complete.

This tablet has a file manager and a tool which allows you to connect on a printer via Wi-Fi. It comes with a 10.1 inch display with a 1280 x 800 resolution (just like what the Motorola Xoom has), weighs 1.6 pounds and .6 inches thick. Toshiba Thrive also has a GPS, Bluetooth and a media player which is separated from Apps. The tablet will be powered by the new Android 3.1 operating system.

On its touchscreen system, Thrive has Swype for a comfortable use of the multi touch keyboard. Toshiba also provided some of their software like resolution plus technology which they use on their other products such as laptops and televisions. It also has stereo speakers, removable back plate for battery, and two cameras (2 megapixels for the front and 5 megapixels at the back).

Toshiba Thrive will be taking up pre-orders on June 13, 2011 and will have an initial price of $429.99 for 8GB memory, $479.99 for the 16GB, and $579.99 for the largest storage 32GB. It will be offered with a variety of colors to choose from so consumers can suit their slate according to their preference.
