If you have been injured due to someone else’s negligence, a personal injury lawyer can help. They can help if you were injured in a car accident and they can help you get the funds you need to carry on after a workplace accident. These are a few of the most common reasons to hire a personal injury attorney, but they aren’t the only reasons why you should consider turning to a lawyer.

Here are a few other surprising injuries that an attorney may be able to help you with.

Pedestrian Accidents

You don’t have to be in a moving vehicle and experience an accident in order to hire an attorney to recover funds that will help you as you’re recovering. If you are a pedestrian and you’re hit by a vehicle, you can hire a lawyer too.

Pedestrian fatalities have increased over 40 percent in the United States since 2008, and these kinds of accidents account for 16 percent of all traffic fatalities today. It’s true that smartphones are being blamed, but that doesn’t mean pedestrians deserve to be hit by a car simply because they are distracted.

Don’t think the accident has to involve a car either! Pedestrian accidents with motorcycles, mopeds, bicycles, and other pedestrians can all be addressed by an attorney.

Bicycle Accidents

There are a lot of myths out there about bike lanes and cyclists. It’s no wonder that drivers don’t really want to share the road with them, but it’s important to provide ways for people to bike. It’s good for our environment, and it provides people with an affordable way to get to work and run errands.

If you’re injured in a bicycle accident you should call an attorney. You should especially call a professional if they are blaming you for the accident. A lawyer can ensure your rights are protected and the truth comes out about your injuries.

Animal Injuries

Your accident doesn’t have to involve another person in order for you to hire an attorney. If another person’s dog bites you, there are things you should do right away to prevent an infection, but you should also consider hiring an attorney.

Dog bites are the most common animal injuries, but they aren’t the only injuries that can qualify you for compensation. A few other animal injuries that you may want to speak to an attorney about include:

  • Dog scratches
  • Cat scratches
  • Cat bites
  • Reptile bites
  • Zoo or animal sanctuary accidents

Slip and fall accidents are often brought to the attention of attorneys. If your fall was caused by an unruly cat or a dog that wasn’t properly leashed and you experienced a serious injury, you deserve to speak to a lawyer who can help you build your case and bring it to court.

Defective Products

When you purchase a product, you expect that product to perform up to its promise. If it doesn’t, and you or a loved one is injured in the process, you deserve to let the large business that is selling the faulty product know the pain their item has caused you.

Kitchen products, like pressure and slow cookers, can cause a lot of damage if they are defective, but other types of products and services can cause serious harm as well. For example, if you hire the wrong contractor, you could be left with shoddy work. If that work includes electrical systems, dangerously rebuilt floors, or improperly installed fixtures, and you experience an injury, an attorney can help make sure you’re able to hold that contractor accountable.

Police Brutality

Police brutality is finally getting the attention it deserves. It can be especially scary to go up against a police officer or police station because they are protected by doctrines that make it nearly impossible to sue them, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try.

Excessive physical force, unnecessary use of tools, like tasers, and even unfair treatment due to racial or cultural differences can all be addressed by your attorney.

If the police station or other officers treated you unfairly and causing emotional distress, you may also have a case. It’s important to work with an attorney to hold the police accountable, regardless of the outcome, as these kinds of cases are the only way anything will change.

It’s obvious that you should hire a personal injury attorney if you’re injured on the job or if you’re in a car accident and are having trouble working with your insurance, but there are many other injuries an attorney can help you with too.

  • Thanks for pointing out that I can get the help of a personal injury attorney when it comes to instances of police brutality. A friend of mine claims to have surrendered peacefully to the police when he was caught drunk driving but a taser was used on him in order to apparently pacify him. The earlier his wounds can be examined, the better it would be for his claim.

  • I like that you discussed all the claims where a personal injury attorney can help. Although I haven’t experienced any of the listed reasons yet, I had no idea that I can file a case against police brutality. With that said, when I got injured due to the excessive physical force by police officers, I shall then consider hiring a lawyer to get the right compensation I deserve.
