In life, there is always something that we can do to improve ourselves. From bettering our outlook on things that are happening around us, to getting fitter. One thing you don’t want to do is get complacent as there are always ways to improve. To become a better person it is important to consider how your actions affect others as well as how you can make yourself happier. You want to be the best version of yourself and there is nothing standing in the way of that but you, so why not give it a go? Here are some top ways that you can become a better you in no time at all.

  1. Don’t sweat the small stuff

In life it can be easy to get caught up in the small things that can be inconvenient to you. Whether it was your train getting delayed or someone getting your order wrong in a restaurant. If this is you, then try instead of getting frustrated to accept that you can’t change that it happened and instead just go with the flow. You will find that you end up feeling much happier in yourself when you’re not stressing about all the little inconveniences that, in the scale of things, don’t really affect you too much.

  1. Get rid of bad habits

Over time, we all pick up bad habits. This could be smoking, drinking or taking drugs. If you do this, it is a good idea to get rid of them sooner rather than later and avoiding any problems in your life further down the line. It could be that you are starting somewhere that does regular drug testing so you want to ensure you don’t lose your job and can get back on track, or that you want to do it to be healthier. Some turn themselves completely around and go from drinking or taking drugs to doing drug testing training and helping keep workplaces free of any substances. You might need assistance to get over these addictive habits, but there is plenty of support out there. 

  1. Be kinder to others

It is never a bad idea to be kinder to others, so why not try now? Even if you are a lovely person, you could probably say more compliments to others, or to stop speaking behind their backs. Mindless gossip is all too easy to do, but it is a good idea to try and stop this. It never benefits anyone and can only leave the person you are speaking about feeling sad and you feeling bad about yourself. Being kinder to others can also make you feel closer to them and could leave you with lifelong friends that you might not have thought of before. If you make an effort to speak to someone who is shy for example, you could find that they turn into a great friend that you never would have known if you didn’t make the effort to speak to them.

  1. Be kinder to yourself (don’t try and please everyone)

As well as being kinder to yourself, why not try being kinder to yourself too. It can be all too easy to be nice to others, but it is when it comes to ourselves that we are often the harshest critics. Instead of looking in the mirror and thinking you look fat or pointing out your flaws, instead tell yourself five things you like about yourself. You could also do this in a journal, and each day write down five things that you are grateful for. You will find it soon has a very positive impact on your mental health and your motivation too.

  1. Get fit 

Being a better you includes taking more care of your body and a good place to start is with an effective fitness routine. Take it slow, even baby steps will help you to progress. You could give yourself the goal of walking more or going on a gentle jog around your local park. If this doesn’t sound appealing to you, why not try doing a workout video or class such as body pump or pilates? Ensure that you also eat healthier, ditching the sugary and fatty snacks for fresh fruit and veg. The odd unhealthy treat is fine, but try to make sure it is in moderation.

These are just a few ways that you can be a better you. By implementing these into your everyday life you will soon find that you are much happier and confident in yourself. There is nothing greater than feeling happy and positive and this will help you to be just that.
