The U.S. has seen a huge increase in internet use as two-thirds of the population stays home to decrease the spread of Covid-19. More people are using the internet for remote work, online education, entertainment and to stay socially engaged than ever before and internet companies are seeing the huge increase. AT&T reported the highest number of Netflix streams in March and outages have also occurred across the country. To combat this internet service providers are having to work hard to keep their networks at peak performance. The FCC even granted AT&T and Verizon temporary access to use unused spectrum bandwidth in order to expand their broadband access. Even with this, four of the ten largest U.S. cities have noted that residential internet speed has slowed down during the pandemic.
