With a new year comes the desire to start afresh, set new goals, make new resolutions, and seek ways to improve one’s life. For many, that means trying to achieve more financial success, grow their business, get a promotion, seek a better job, lose some weight, and so many other goals.

Most people hardly ever think about something called balance. In fact, it is rare that people would consciously choose to seek more balance in their lives as part of their new year resolutions.

Yet, balance is the very fabric that holds everything together. Without balance, man and nature would rapidly devolve into chaos, extinction, and nothingness. This is why we’re asking you to consider adding this to your list of things to achieve this year. Here are a few ideas that can get you started.

Spend More Time With Family

Here’s the thing: family is everything. You can spend decades giving your utmost best at your job and get laid off just like that. If you’ve ever seen where a company lays off people who have put in 20 years of their lives, the only thing those employees leave the building with is a box with their things.

If those people gave everything to the company and neglected their family in the process, they usually have nothing to fall back to. This often leads to a life of regrets and sadness. You don’t want that. Work will always be there, but you can lose your family if you don’t spend time with them. So, resolve to spend more time with your loved ones this year.

Get a New Hobby

One of the reasons why many otherwise successful people look and feel miserable is because their entire self-worth is tied to their work and bank accounts. If you want more joy in your life, then you need to take on new hobbies or pick up the old ones you’ve neglected.

Hobbies can be as varied as possible. You can take up photography, biking, machining –requires learning micrometer uses, dancing, playing a musical instrument, gardening, archery, scuba diving, and more. Just find a hobby that makes you really happy and allows you to unwind.

Periodically Take Some Time for Yourself

When was the last time you took a vacation? If you haven’t done so recently, because you fear that you wouldn’t know what to do with all that free time, try something new.

Take some time to just be by yourself and do something new. It can be something as simple as puttering in the garden or going to visit your loved ones. It can also mean traveling to and seeing new places. You could also go on a spiritual quest in search of meaning and purpose. The point is to find something truly rewarding and just do it in your spare time.

Do Something Fun

Make a conscious commitment to doing something fun at least once a week or once a month. It can be a road trip or a carousel ride. When it comes to having great fun, there are a ton of options that are available to you. Pick one or more and just do them.
