You’ve been a good friend to the bride, so naturally being a good bridesmaid to her on the most important day of her life should be easy, right? Of course it can be, but you’d be surprised at the amount of bridesmaids who frequently miss the mark when it comes to being part of a supportive bridal party. But, this doesn’t have to be you! You’re reading this, so obviously it’s important to you that you fulfil your bridesmaid duties as best you can. Read on for some handy tips.

Help with Planning

Some bridesmaids just don’t realize that they’re supposed to be helping the bride, and their main priority is looking great in the wedding photos. Although it’s important that you look your best on the big day, remember that there are a number of things you can do to make the bride’s life easier in the run up to the wedding. Does she want help with the seating plan, or decorating the venue? Ask what you can do to help with the planning, and she’ll definitely appreciate it.

Provide Emotional Support

Getting married is an emotional time for any bride (and groom!) and your friend is likely to be feeling a rollercoaster of emotions right now, from stress and nerves to excitement and joy. It’s important that you’re there to listen when she needs to talk to somebody about how she’s feeling, and provide support and reassurance when she needs it most. Emphasize with her point of view, and provide constructive feedback if she asks for your input.

Don’t Get Too Drunk

Although the bachelorette party is the time when the whole bridal party can have some fun and temporarily forget about the stresses of planning the wedding, it’s important that you keep it together – nobody wants to be carrying you home! If you’re involved in planning the bachelorette party, it’s important to go with whatever she wants to do – maybe you’d prefer a night out on the town over a five course meal or spa day, but this event is all about the bride, so respect what she wants.

Don’t Moan About the Dress

Obviously if you’re given a dress that simply doesn’t fit, it’s important to mention something so that the necessary changes can be made. However, don’t complain about a dress simply because it’s not something that you would necessarily choose for yourself, or over petty reasons such as you don’t like pink bridesmaid dresses. If you think that the bride would appreciate your input when choosing bridesmaid dresses then go ahead, however keep in mind that it’s ultimately down to her to make the final decision about what you and all the other bridesmaids and flower girls are going to wear.
