Obtaining an educational degree is one of the most reliable ways for an individual to gain financial success, and no state is taking that to heart more than Kentucky. The state is ambitiously working towards a goal of achieving a 60% college degree attainment rate among residents by 2030. This goal has been fueled by statistics that demonstrate that bachelor degree holders earn $1 million more in their lifetimes than peers that only graduate with high school diplomas.

This goal has already achieved significant results- there has been a 7% increase in degree and credential completions and a 26% rise in under-represented minority enrollment at public universities. Attainment rate is already at 55% in 2023. However, the state is still 8% below the national average for baccalaureate degrees. Improving transfer pathways from community college and addressing students’ food and housing insecurity concerns will be the best way to close this gap.
