It can be a bit of a shock to hear exactly how old some cities in America are. The revolutionary war happened in 1783, Louisville was established in 1780. It’s quite literally named after the king at the time. Knowing this, it can be hard to imagine it has become one of the most affordable cities in America. Not only that, but it represents American culture better than most.
People who move to cities today are usually looking for one thing first and foremost. Entertainment. Louisville doesn’t miss out on this front at all. There’s the Kentucky Derby, massive art shows and concerts, an active nightlife, Louisville is a busy city. Yet Louisville is by no means a concrete jungle.
Waterfront Park, the Falls of the Ohio State park, Bernheim Forest, there’s no shortage of natural beauty in Louisville. There are four seasons, bright and sunny summers, brisk and snowy winters. The weather is never too extreme though, the summers aren’t too hot nor the winter too cold.
When it comes to problems, to drawbacks, cities today are too expensive. Louisville completely combats this image. It has a cost of living that is not only low in its county, but in the country. For housing, for cost of living, for goods, there are few places better than Louisville. It has one of the lowest cost of living in the county, and is below the average of housing prices nationally. Something nearly unheard of for cities.
It can’t be said that Louisville has everything, but it’s hard to say it’s severely lacking anywhere. It’s a city, an interesting one at that, but it doesn’t sacrifice prices or beauty. Ultimately there are just a few cities like Louisville left. It’s a little pocket of passionate people with a dense history and great food. It’s an old city fit for modern needs.
