If there’s one thing that people need to start doing more with their home, it’s dressing up the exterior of their home to reflect themselves. There are so many options when it comes to expressing yourself through decor and it adds a huge amount of personality to your neighborhood. Instead of every home looking like the same boring building, personalizing the exterior of your home means that you can transform it to look unique and fascinating.

So without further ado, here are some tips to help you personalize the exterior of your home.

Add some flags over your home

Flags can sometimes be seen as controversial to people, but the majority of the world doesn’t really care what kind of flag you fly as long as you’re not purposely trying to incite some kind of reaction from people. For instance, Americans might hoist military flags and flags of their state or country, and people that feel a little patriotic towards their country can also use country flags. Some might raise flags to show solitary for a cause, or they might have LGBT flags to show support for the social movement.

You don’t need to add them over your home either. Small flags on your windows or even at the entrance to your home can add a bit of personality as well. Just don’t add too many because it can look a little gaudy.

Use colors that you really like

Home exteriors are great places to use different colors. The most basic way to do this is to add some kind of coat of paint to your walls or siding. Keep in mind the roof of your home also has a color, so you’ll want to try and match it or complement it if possible. Replacing your roof just for the sake of getting a new color can be really expensive, so you’re usually better off trying to use the roof color as a base or foundation for other choices. But with that said, replacing a roof can be practical in other ways too, especially if you’ve not replaced it for many years.

You can also utilize color in different ways with plants, furniture, and fences. Many celebrity homes make great use of color by having lots of different plants and foliage, and it creates a beautiful scheme that complements the rest of the house well. Choose colors that really mean a lot to you or that you absolutely love, and it’ll take your home to the next level.

Picking the right plants

Lastly, we should also mention that there are different types of plants that are great for different kinds of situations. For instance, mistletoes are generally used to signify peace, whereas succulents represent loyalty and endurance. These meanings might be lost on some people, but their look and the feel you get when surrounded by them can give your home a very personalized atmosphere that really represents you, your feelings, and your personal design choices.
