Since the pandemic of 2020, the world has been full of chatter, theories, and discussion over vaccines. The speed with which the COVID vaccines were created and available to the public has led to lots of skepticism, particularly among those who were already vaccine hesitant. 

While it’s true that vaccines typically take 10-15 years to develop, that’s not necessarily a valid reason to mistrust COVID vaccines. Some previous vaccines already debunk the idea that development must take at least a decade. For instance, the mumps vaccine was developed in 4 years; measles in 3 years; and H1N1 was developed in just a few months since it was based on existing processes. 

Much like the H1N1, COVID vaccines were also based on pre-existing data. Coronavirus research was readily available, especially as scientists around the world worked in collaboration with each other. Global governments also worked to fast track vaccine development. 

The gist is that fast-tracked vaccines go through the same clinical processes as standard vaccines and they are equally as safe. Learn more COVID vaccine facts in the infographic below:
