CBD oil, or cannabidiol, is a compound derived from the Cannabis plant. Unlike the THC compound, CBD does not produce an intoxicating effect, but rather a sensation of relaxation. There have been extensive studies on CBD, and gradually we are learning more and more about the associated health benefits.

1. Depression & Anxiety

According to the ADAA, anxiety disorders affect ‘40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older.’ Their data also shows that ‘around 17.3 million adults’ in the US have experienced one major depressive episode, (at least).

The world of pharmaceuticals offers plenty of medication for depression and anxiety; however, many can cause unwanted side effects. Scientific trials have concluded that CBD is an effective supplement to treat anxiety and depression. What’s more, very few undesirable side effects have been reported. One study referenced on Health Line concluded that ‘ a 300-mg dose of CBD was the most effective at significantly reducing anxiety.’

Before taking any new supplements for anxiety and depression, you’ll need to consult your doctor. It’s particularly important to do this if you are already taking any medication.

2 . Pain Relieving Properties

In recent years, it’s been discovered that the CBD component of marijuana is largely responsible for its pain-relieving properties. Our human bodies are made up of the endocannabinoid system, and it’s this system that regulates functions such as pain, immune response, and sleep. Some studies have revealed that CBD reduces pain by influencing the activity of the endocannabinoid receptors. CBD is now used to treat arthritis or the pain symptoms associated with multiple sclerosis.

3. Improved Skin Care

In the last few years, CBD has cropped up in many skincare products. There are plenty of benefits to using CBD oil on the skin, including:

  • Reduce acne: CBD oil can help stop gland cells from producing an excessive amount of sebum, which helps reduce the appearance of acne.
  • Reduce psoriasis & eczema: Skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema can be frustrating; by adding CBD to your skincare routine, you can soothe the inflammation, itching, and dryness.
  • Moisturizing properties: CBD oil is a fantastic moisturizer; it’s packed with antioxidants and is also praised for its anti-aging properties. When you’re next shopping for skincare products, it’s a great idea to look out for CBD creams!

4. Epilepsy

According to Medical News Today, ‘The first CBD-based medication that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved was Epidiolex.’ Doctors are now able to prescribe the drug to patients who have Dravet syndrome or Lennox-Gastaut. Scientists are still somewhat unclear as to how CBD oil helps to manage seizures. One theory proposes that the compound impacts a receptor named ‘transient receptor potential vanilloid.’

Over the last few years, CBD has taken the world by storm. In many states, the laws associated with growing cannabis have been lifted, paving the way for more marjuana and CBD based businesses.
