Many people adopt different methods to boost productivity. Some people can work with tons of music in the background. Others need total silence to be incredibly productive. It truly depends on the person. However, there is one universal requirement: comfort. If you’re working in an uncomfortable position, it’s going to be very difficult to be productive. However, if you’re going to be honest with yourself, take a look at some of the ways comfort can boost business productivity.
Comfort Increases Focus
When you’re comfortable, it’s a lot easier to focus on the task at hand. If the air conditioning unit is broken on a day where the outdoor temperature is 90 degrees, you’re going to experience a slowdown in work efficiency. No one can fully concentrate when there’s sweat trickling all over their body. In this case, you’d need to call an HVAC company to take care of the issue immediately.
Comfort Supports Health
In the example of a broken HV/AC system, it’s actually dangerous to work in those conditions. It can also be wildly unsanitary. If the office building is freezing cold in the dead of winter without heat, this will impact the pipes and other areas. If employees can’t flush toilets and properly use running water, this can endanger their health and well-being.
Comfort Eliminates Excuses
When an employee is comfortable, this makes it easier for them to enjoy their work, making them less likely to procrastinate. If they have a comfortable environment to work in, all they need to do is come in and do a good job. If employers take the time to ensure that their employees are comfortable, they will boost their business productivity.

Even if your employees don’t tell you to your face, they care about whether you matter to them. When you’re an employer, you’re in a position of influence. You have a major role to play in their employment. Most employees would like to believe their employer cares about their well-being. After all, they’re dedicating a major portion of their day to build your company. When you know they’re uncomfortable and do nothing about it, this can lead to a decrease in overall morale. When the morale is low, it’s only a matter of time before employees begin to look elsewhere.
Granted, it’s not impossible to be productive in the midst of discomfort. Take a look at some celebrities who work through uncomfortable circumstances. Consider how parents manage to operate on very little sleep to keep their newborn alive. It’s possible, but it’s never ideal. Knowing this, implement a strategy for comfort. Not only will it boost productivity, but it’ll lead to an environment of happier employees.
