Isolation Fatigue: How To Fight Back

COVID-19 has changed the world in ways no-one saw coming and this sudden change is making 2 in 3 Americans feeling anxious, depressed, lonely, or hopeless at least once a week amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the first signs of this new stress is millions of people across the country panic buying and hoarding huge amounts of goods. Hand sanitizer, toilet paper, alcohol, and baking yeast have all seen increases by hundreds of percent in sales. Meat plants have been forced to close down due to outbreaks of COVID-19 amongst their workers, but consumers have responded by doubling typical meat purchases.

Quarantine and isolation are also causing people’s mental health to deteriorate and may lead to serious psychological effects such as symptoms consistent with depression and PTSD. The continued high levels of stress can start to change our brains – causing fatigue, irritability, and increased risk taking.
