3 Adventures for a Family of Fantasy Fans

Perhaps your kids love watching the extended editions of their favorite fantasy tv shows and movies. Perhaps your family has to fight over who gets to read your favorite fantasy author’s new novel first. Maybe you find it hard to get your family of nerds out in the sunshine every so often. If you have a family full of fantasy nerds and you want to come up with a way for the whole family to have a real adventure, there are plenty of venues and places to go. After being cooped up for so long, it can be fun to see what sort of activities to plan for future outdoor excursions and events. Whether your kids are 2 or 62, here are some great adventures that fantasy fans will adore.

Geocaching

If you or your kids love poring over the maps in Lord of the Rings and imagining yourself on an epic quest, traversing mountains, forests, and plains, then this real-world treasure hunt may excite you. Geocaching is a worldwide phenomenon where people hide caches and leave clues for others to follow and find them. Young kids can learn about nature, dangerous plants, maps, and compasses, as well as environmental stewardship and the importance of leaving no trace. Adults and older children will enjoy getting out of the house and exploring a new environment.

Fantasy Adventure

There are many venues that focus on giving your family a real fantasy adventure, whether through a renaissance or fantasy fair, or an indoors fantasy event. For example, Lost Worlds in Las Vegas offers many play areas and exciting adventures for kids to enjoy. Some venues like Evermore in Utah offer an outdoors roleplay in a fantasy village, and local fantasy events or conventions can give your whole family an opportunity to be heroes and save the day.

Paleontology Museum

If your family particularly leans towards the exotic or the monstrous, consider taking them to see some real-world monsters. Dinosaurs are our world’s dragons, after all, and we can learn a lot about our lives today by seeing how earth used to be in the past. If you have any local paleontology museums, see if you can take your family to both learn and explore an ancient world.

From exploring the real world, to having fun in a fantasy venue, to learning about earth’s history, there are many fun and exciting adventures that a family of fantasy fans will love. Think about some exciting things you can plan to do once you’re able to leave the house, and your family will be sure to have a good time.
