With the right planning, care, and preparation, you can create a business which will be able to make money from day one, and there are loads of routes which can be taken when you’re approaching something like this. Of course, though, even when a field looks promising, it will always come with some challenges. Technology
The field of tech is one of the biggest in the world, with the last couple of decades changing this space entirely. New computers, phones, and other devices hit the consumer market all the time, and there is even more going on behind the scenes when it comes to commercial technology. Of course, though, simply being able to bring a product to market isn’t enough to find success in an industry like this.
Take a smartphone, for example, everyone uses these devices, and there are countless companies making them, nowadays. You’d think that this would mean that many of these businesses are able to find success. In reality, though, two companies hold more than 50% of the market share between them; Apple and Samsung. When you consider that it could cost millions to bring a new phone to market, those which aren’t able to make enough sales can be hurt massively by this competition.
Fashion
People have always been interested in dressing nicely and wearing clothing which society considers attractive, and the fashion industry has a lot of potential. The current trends change on a seasonal basis, making it nice and easy for new designers to get their foot in the door. Unfortunately, though, making a successful website, producing enough clothing, and being able to sell it for a low enough price can be impossible for an independent designer.

This leaves a lot of incredibly talented people being paid far too little for their work, while also taking away some of the exclusivity. Back in 2015, more than 93 million barrels of oil were being used each day across the globe. Some of this resource was used to make materials like plastic, though a lot of it was being used for oil and fuel. Oil doesn’t need to be marketed or sold, and there is always demand for it. If simply having oil at your disposal was enough to make a solid business, though, countries like Iran would be among some of the richest in the world.
Oil prices are always changing, some countries aren’t allowed to export their oil, and figuring out how much stock you have is just about impossible in this industry. This means that oil and gas revenue accounting is complicated, locking new businesses out of the market unless they’ve already found success in other areas. Few resources are as prized as oil, but this could be a business to avoid if you want to have an easier time.
Transport & Haulage
While the digital age is well and truly in full force, there is still a huge need for companies which are able to move things around the world in a physical sense. Transport and haulage makes up a huge market, with loads of companies providing and using these services around the world, and this can make it seem promising to new business owners. There are a lot of outside elements which can impact your ability to complete jobs and work in this industry, though.
For businesses which only deal with domestic transport, road closures, accidents, and even inaccessible delivery points can make it incredibly hard to keep business running smoothly. For those who transport things overseas, the issues get much worse, with many places having strict customs rules and ever-changing political situations which can make it hard to do business. People need their goods to be shipped around the world, but this doesn’t mean that it will be easy.
Retail
Retail is one of the most popular fields for new businesses. Online stores can be incredibly lucrative, and physical shops can also find a lot of success. Selling things is much simpler than a lot of people realise, nowadays, with a website and some social media adverts often being enough to push a business into the right position. Simply opening an online store won’t guarantee customers, though.
The biggest challenge which businesses face in this space is a combination of two smaller issues; competition and marketing. Small companies often lack the resources to market themselves effectively, while also having to charge more for their goods than larger outfits. This can leave a lot of companies putting in huge amounts of work only to find that they aren’t selling anything, making it hard to keep their doors open.
Every business faces challenges, and you won’t be able to make something like this easy for yourself unless you get very lucky. Of course, though, this doesn’t mean that you should give up on your ideas, and instead should just be careful to make sure that you are aware of the major challenges you could face. Knowing about something like this can make it much easier to find a solution, giving you the chance to solve your issues before they ever impact your work.
