Our lungs are one of the most important organs of the body. When we are living our everyday lives, our lungs are constantly working to fill our organs and cells with oxygen which is essential for bodily function. It has a unique and vital role in the body and today we are going to take a look at how you can give back and look after your lungs today.
Don't Smoke
One of the best ways for you to improve your lung function and make them healthier this year is to stop smoking. If you do smoke already, you are at a higher risk of many issues such as heart disease, cancer and pulmonary embolism. For a quick PE solution as well as to reduce your risk of other diseases, stop smoking and allow the lungs to breathe in clean air.Â
Avoid indoor pollutants
When it comes to living our daily lives, not a lot of us give a second thought to the pollutants which are found inside the home. For example, if you have reed diffusers in the home, it is important for you not to get too close to them because they will often release oils which can be a little irritating to the lungs when you breathe them in. As well as this, you will want to avoid standing close to cleaning products such as bleach when spraying them because these chemicals can easily get into the lungs and irritate your body.
Avoid outdoor pollutants
Outdoor pollution is unfortunately something which we cannot completely avoid, and when it comes to living the healthiest life we can, all we can do is try our best to stay away. Common pollutants are the gases which come from cars and buses and if you work in a city centre these will be common. Ideally, try to breathe in as little of this as you can because it can cause some damage to the lungs and will exacerbate issues such as asthma.
Get a checkup
If you are unsure how healthy your lungs are this year, one great way to check this is to go to the doctor for a checkup. The doctor will be able to check your body and check for anything such as mucus build up or irritation and they will also be able to give you some helpful advice on how to solve your problem.
Exercise
One of the most effective things that you can do for yourself if you are looking after your lungs is to exercise. Like any other organ, our lungs want to be worked and challenged to keep their muscles strong. When we exercise we will breathe more deeply and the lungs will need to work harder to provide our body with the oxygen it needs to stay healthy. If you go for a walk, play a sport, or do a workout a couple of times a week this can make a huge difference to your health and you will be able to feel much healthier this year.
