If there's one thing that has come to define more of the modern era than just about anything else, it would have to be technology. There is no denying that we now live in an almost entirely tech-dominated world. We spend our lives looking at screens at work, at home, in bed, on the bus. No matter what it is, just about every part of your life incorporates technology in some way. Because of that, there are a lot of people who gear that technology is having a negative impact on many of our lives. They feel that it's driving us apart of stripping away things that make us human. However, that's far from the case. With that in mind, here are just a few ways in which modern technology is making life a whole lot better for everyone.
If there is one industry that has always been right at the forefront of technological innovation, it's medicine. And the wonderful thing about that is that it means that new tech is not only amazing but genuinely lifesaving. From new surgical techniques that allow for surgeries that wouldn't have been possible even two decades ago, to things like medical speech recognition software allowing for much greater accessibility for medical professionals, new technology is one of the major driving forces behind innovation in this and many other industries. Many of us simply wouldn't be here without those technological innovations.
Access to education has always been one of the major signs of a progressive, successful society. One of the most wonderful things about living in the internet age is that it really has made access to education easier than ever before. From online university courses to simply giving people the ability to research and find things out for themselves, we really are living in a golden age of information and more people every day are gaining access to that.
The biggest complaint about things like smartphones and social media is that they're pushing us apart but the truth is that the opposite often ends up happening. If a friend moved away, it used to be that you maybe talked every so often and occasionally visited, but generally, it meant that your relationship became much more distant. Now, it really doesn't matter where in the world someone is, you can connect with them in an instant as if they were right in front of you!
Of course, this is not to say that technology is always perfect. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to be concerned about the modern technological age. From predatory practices from tech companies to the ways that many of us end up making ourselves miserable by comparing our lives to those of our friends on Facebook, tech is certainly not without its problems. But the most important thing to remember is that many of these issues aren't problems with technology, they're problems with people. We can't spend our time blaming technology for things that we are doing instead of making the effort to change our behavior.
