Much of the talk around modern day businesses focuses upon those who work in offices, or those who are the leaders of online-only startups. Whilst there are a lot of people who work in these sectors, there are also plenty of business opportunities in industry and other practical sectors, too. In fact, these are the types of businesses that people will always need, and there is quite a lot of money to be made if you’re looking to open up a practical skills based company. But what can you actually do? We’ve noted down some ideas here.

Construction

One of the main practical industries that people go into is construction, and although it is based upon actually putting up buildings, it does require an office team as well (although this may be outsourced). There is a lot of money in construction, but you do need to make sure that you’re following all of the necessary regulations if you open up a business like this. If you’re successful, you could be working on massive projects for various clients, which is a great thing to be a part of.

Welding

There are also many opportunities out there for welders, and this falls under a similar bracket to construction. You could be welding metal – which is actually used by those in construction – for things like bridges, pipelines, or power plants. Again, this is a service that people will always require, but you do need to invest the initial money in the safety garments, equipment, and all of the other things required for the current regulations. Catering

Another out-of-office company that you could set up is a restaurant or catering business, which requires some impressive cheffing skills. If you’re going to go into this type of industry, then you’ll need a good amount of years behind you in the catering business, and some other good chefs on board with you, too. However, some of the best restaurant owners secure themselves high amounts of cash, and you’ll also be able to put your heart and soul into what you love: food.

Agriculture

If you’re super anti-office, then agriculture could be the one for you. People who go into this usually have a background in farming (and most of them also have a family history of it too), but it could just be something that you opt for because you love the outdoors, and you’ve always been interested in the trade. It requires late nights and early mornings, and it’s definitely hard work, but it’s worth it if you want to have the freedom of avoiding an office, and you love nature.

So, if you have out-of-office skills, and you want to open up a practical business, then why not try out one of these industries? Ultimately, it will depend upon your background and where your interests lie, so do something that you love (and probably something that you’re also trained in). You’ll never look back to the office again, we promise…
