Congratulations on your pregnancy! There are all sorts of exciting events around the corner for you. However, if it’s your first time having a baby, you may feel unsure about a lot of it. It’s perfectly normal to feel overwhelmed about what to do, especially when you’ve never done it before.
Therefore, you may feel like your head is spinning when it’s time to create a baby registry. Since you’ve never seen half of the gadgets or products, it’s normal to feel lost. The last thing you want is to add something to the list which could hurt your baby. Fear not, we’re here to help. Here is your list of essentials that you should add to the top of the list.
Swaddle Blankets
Babies need to stay wrapped up like burritos during the first few months. Not only does it keep them feeling warm and comforted by imitating the mother’s womb, but it also has been shown to reduce the chance of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
Your baby will be releasing all sorts of liquids in the beginning, so you may find yourself going through quite a few a day. Therefore, don’t skip adding these crucial must-haves to the top of the list.
Car Seat
You’ll be needing a car seat the minute that you leave the hospital. It’s absolutely non-negotiable for your baby’s well-being, and don’t even think about trying to buy one used.
There are all sorts of seats out there for a wide variety of prices. Try to choose one that in the mid-price range for your register. You never know, someone may upgrade anyway.
Stroller
Although you may prefer a baby carrier eventually, it’s nice to try out a stroller too. If you want to go for a brisk walk, it can be a nice way to work out without having to carry extra weight.
You may want to consider opting for a folding stroller if you have a smaller car, or plan on traveling with your baby one day.
Breast Pump
If you plan on breastfeeding, then you will definitely need a breast pump. Not only does pumping encourage your milk supply, but it also gives you the freedom to bottle feed should you choose to.
Sometimes you may need to get out a bit by yourself without your baby. Having the comfort of knowing they have plenty of breast milk while you’re away is vital for your sanity. Do yourself a favor and ask for an electric pump. It’s much faster than a manual pump!
Nursing Pillow
Nursing pillows aren’t just handy for nursing; they’re also great for tummy time. If you have younger children who want to hold the baby, it makes a great way to hold the baby with enough support.
Baby Swing
Babies are used to the ebb and flow of their mothers' wombs. When they come out of the womb, it can be difficult for them to settle to sleep with all the stillness around them.
A swing makes it possible for them to rock gently to sleep, leaving you time to do things like take a shower or clean the house!
