Save Money In The Long Run: Build A Home Gym

You may be a fitness virgin, you may be a long-time bodybuilding fanatic, you may be somewhere in between. Either way, you benefits of a healthy exercise routine are well-known and widely espoused. Some people spend huge amounts of money on gym memberships only to never go because they struggle to make time to go. The benefits of setting up a home gym are many and varied, but the most persuasive argument in favor of a home gym is that it can save you a (Source) huge amount of money in the long run.

Not only is the initial cost of all the equipment practically paid for within a year or two, but it becomes so much easier to squeeze in a quick thirty minute workout when you don’t have to drive fifteen minutes either way to a gym and wait for the machines to become available. Granted, the initial cost might put some people off, but if you see it as an investment rather than an expense, it begins to make a lot of sense. Even if you don’t have much in the way of savings to splash out, there is always the option of a secured bad credit personal loan which will allow you to kit out your home gym, and likely won’t cost you much more in repayments than a gym membership would. Below are the three key aspects of any home gym, so that you know your new investment will be well worth its cost.

Space

If you have a garage or spare room downstairs, this would be ideal for your home gym, if not you may need to consider building a small extension or weatherproof shed to house your equipment. You will need to ensure that there is enough room to comfortably store all your equipment and also give you space to exercise properly.

Flooring

Many people might not consider the flooring in a home gym, but it is a very important aspect, especially if you are someone who enjoys lifting weights. Aside from the obvious point of ensuring that your gym is on a ground floor to take all the weight of the equipment, you will need to protect your floor also. A plain concrete floor, as opposed to wooden floorboards or tiles, is preferable for a home gym as it is durable and cheap to fix, should any damage occur. You should also then add a thick layer of heavy duty rubber flooring to protect both your equipment and the floor. It may not be pretty, but durability is the order of the day here.

Equipment

Lastly, the most important aspect of a home gym: the equipment. It can be easy to get carried away and have a huge selection of specialized equipment like many commercial gyms do. However, you would be surprised just how much you can achieve with a minimal setup. A bench, a power rack with pull up and dip attachments, a barbell, and a selection of plates can give you all the equipment you need for a full body workout. Throw in a couple of cardio machines and some lightweight dumbbells, and you have a very comprehensive gym setup. You may even find that your workouts become more enjoyable when you strip away the nonsense exercises and equipment and get back to basics.

Hopefully, this has given you some food for thought as to how easy it can be to create your very own home gym. Follow this guide, and you’ll be saving money and exercising more before you know it.
