What’s holding women back in the workforce? In 2017 only 17% of startups have a female founder, and there are still serious discrepancies in the boardroom as well as in government positions. Women are facing a tougher battle to the top than men have traditionally faced, and the workforce hasn’t yet been able to adapt to the changing workforce. Balance between work and life is holding many women back, which could easily be solved by a few policy tweaks here and there. Regardless, there are many women who have pushed their way to the top, and their habits are particularly noteworthy.

Many successful women have habits that help them push through barriers. They include:

  • Overcoming adversity – women often have more obstacles in their way, so tenacity can pay off
  • Writing down goals – it helps to keep a record as it keeps you accountable
  • Taking time to rest – successful women know you can’t pour from an empty cup
  • Finding balance – You can’t have it all, but you can have balance
