3 Online Games to Play on Your Cruise Ship Holiday

Years ago when cruise holidays first became a popular form of travel for holidaymakers around the world, there was little chance that voyagers could connect to the Internet whilst aboard. Plus, even if you could connect to the Internet it would probably have set you back a pretty penny just for fifteen minutes.

Fortunately, Wi-Fi access is becoming more affordable and accessible as cruise lines the world over are working with maritime communication companies and using their satellites, or putting entirely new ones up there in space. We don’t really understand how it all works, but this sounds like a step in the right direction.

So, as the onboard entertainment can get a little samey or lackluster after a few days at sea, we thought we’d recommend three different types of online games that you can play whilst on your cruise ship holiday. After all, if you need to play online games then no man, nor the fact you’re in the middle of the Atlantic, should stand in your way.

Online Bingo

According to a poll of UK players taken in early 2015, 3.4 million people play online bingo enough to regard it as a hobby. 50% of these individuals reported playing online bingo every day, which means there are well over one million people who seriously enjoy this game. Chances are, some of these people partake in cruising and like to improve a day by the pool with a little bit of bingo.

For those of you who are not quite sure what the appeal of online bingo is, the game is so popular mostly due to how easy it is to learn, how sociable you can be whilst playing even online and the variety of games that are on offer at most sites. For instance, online bingo operators Fabulous Bingo have several varieties of bingo on offer – many of which are fittingly based on tourist destination – as well as slots and other games so you never get bored of playing the same thing over and over.

As print media becomes ever so redundant, many newspapers have started putting their daily crosswords online. The Mirror, The Independent, The Guardian and many other publishers have a vast collection of crossword puzzles that are sure to keep you entertained. Or alternatively, there are plenty of apps for both iOS and Android smartphones that are packed with puzzles.

Crossword puzzles aren’t just fun either, as there are many benefits that come with testing your brain. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, partaking in a crossword every day can help keep your brain younger for longer – keeping your brain active is the best way to stave off dementia and other age-related decline. Meanwhile, other researchers believe that completing crosswords as a group promotes bonding, thus encouraging your brain to release happiness hormones and just reading the clues will probably expand your vocabulary significantly. Then of course, there’s that amazing feeling you get when you finally finish a challenging puzzle; what could be better?

Bubble Shooters

If you are/you know an older woman with an iPad then you have probably seen this sort of games before. Usually, they feature a collection of colored orbs at the top of the screen and a weapon of some sort at the bottom that you use to connect the same colored bubbles and make them disappear. The premise is quite simple, so maybe it is no surprise that people absolutely love these bubble-shooter games.

With a little bit of speed and strategy you too can become a sharpshooter, but unlike online bingo and crosswords these games require a little bit of practice before you really start becoming a bubble-shooting ace. This may be why people play them in the first place, after all sometimes we need something that borders on the edge of challenging to get our brains into gear. In addition to this, you don’t even have to play bubble shooters by yourself as many online sites and apps alike allow users to play with or against each other. Really, bubble shooters give their players the best of everything – a challenge with an easy learning curve, complete with socializing and competition.

So, next time you’re on a cruise ship holiday and you’re looking for a way to pass the time, whack out your smartphone, tablet or laptop and have a go at these games. We guarantee you’ll have even more fun than before.
