How Can Games Help In Education

This infographic explains why games are very important for the educational system. There are multiple reasons for that, and the most important among them is that the children nowadays are grown up in the highly advanced technological world and after one or two years children start using gadgets. This not only familiarizes children with the technology but also contributes in shaping the mindset for learning. More traditional ways to teach are being reduced day by day because of the advancement that we have made in technology, and it would be perfect to use this technology and games for educational purposes as well.

It is widely believed that playing games make the children intelligent, but how this actually happens, remains outside the concerns of many people. According to a research conducted by Paul Howard Jones, the playing of games increases the level of dopamine in your mind. There are two main functions of dopamine: the first one is to encourage the attention, and the second – and the most important – one is that it creates connections in your memory. Creation of connections in our brains is extremely important because it helps us to associate different things with what we already know, and thus the learning process becomes faster.

Another factor that is associated with gaming is the motivational factor. Since children are always pleased to play games, why shouldn’t they be given educational games, so that they will play and learn simultaneously! The other factor behind the motivation produced by playing games is the ability to witness and manipulate different variables in the games. Since children can do whatever they want in the games, they tend to be more creative. This motivation capacity also teaches children some sense of responsibility. As they play games, they are responsible for their own actions, and if they lose, they won’t blame anybody else. These lessons can help in daily life situations as well. The data in this infographic is compiled by Kyle ward of Game Period.

The four most important things that educational games teach children are problem-solving, collaboration, communication, and negotiation. All these four skills are extremely necessary for practical life. For instance, without effective communication, it is very unlikely that you will get a good job in future, and same is the case with collaboration. Same is the case with other skills. Problem-solving capacity is also improved by gaming because in games children focus on different situations and come up with their own answers and solutions.

There are different games appropriate for different children depending on their age. Children can play games to learn history or medical sciences. Not only games are helpful, but more and more educational apps are being developed which focus more on the educational side and less on the play side.
