Millennials want more than cool shades and man buns. They actually want to achieve the American Dream of owning a home more than previous generations, but they are feeling the squeeze of an unfavorable housing market coupled with stagnating wages and growing debt. It’s getting more and more difficult to save money, but it’s almost impossible to buy a house without a hefty down payment these days. What’s a Millennial to do?

There are a number of programs in place from state and federal government agencies designed to help get first time home buyers into homes. HUD is a federal agency that gives grants to states to distribute to help first time home buyers. FHA is a program that insures loans for first time home buyers, allowing lenders to give them a better rate. EEM allows borrowers to extend a loan amount to do energy upgrades.
