Significant Places in Seattle for Music Lovers

If you are a music lover, then Seattle is the perfect destination choice. This city is filled with spots worth checking out, from the Experience Music Project museum to the Edgewater Hotel to Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley, Seattle offers something for music lovers of all tastes. You’ll find an impressive number of music festivals, too – so if you’re looking for a place to enjoy yourself while celebrating great music, you need look no further than the glorious Emerald City.

Experience Music Project

One of your first stops might be this museum that pays homage to Seattle’s rich musical history. The Experience Music Project (EMP) features exhibits on some of the city’s most famous musicians, from Jimi Hendrix to the grunge band, Nirvana. No music aficionado should pass up an opportunity to tour this site when in town.

Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley

This venue has been around since 1979, and it is certainly worth a visit for anyone who enjoys jazz. The theater is done in the cabaret style, and you can choose from an extensive menu of delectable appetizers, salads, soups, entrees, and desserts, as well as cocktails (reservations are always recommended if you plan to dine). Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley books some of the most memorable acts in the business, so be prepared for an exciting evening.

The Edgewater Hotel

The Edgewater is where the Beatles stayed when they were in Seattle (and they fished from their hotel window). Countless other acts have chosen the hotel as their place to stay, as well – from Frank Zappa to Led Zeppelin to the Rolling Stones. The views of the water are incredible, and you might even sleep in one of the rooms that accommodated Black Sabbath, Kurt Cobain, or REM.

The Kurt Cobain Memorial

A music lover’s trip to the city in which grunge music first flourished would not be complete without a stop at the Kurt Cobain Memorial. This small park is actually an unofficial memorial to the man, but fans have covered its benches with lyrics, love letters to Cobain, and photos. Exploring the park is free, and it is directly adjacent to the Nirvana frontman’s former place of residence.

The Festivals

If you can manage a trip during one of the music festivals, you may get even more from your experience than you ever imagined. Bumbershoot takes place over Labor Day weekend, and it is an annual cultural festival with a strong focus on music. Another longtime favorite is the Northwest Folklife Festival, which is now in its 45th year.

Seattle is always an excellent place to be for individuals who appreciate music. The city is home to numerous musicians and aspiring musicians, and its history includes a rich culture of musical acts. You will never be without a place to go if you want to enjoy some live music in Seattle – and don’t forget to stop by some of the spots associated with the Seattle music scene of the past and present.
