Sitting down with VICE’s Allie Conti, Martin Shkreli is adamant that his company’s actions were grossly misrepresented, arguing that his company is doing the research and development to create new and improved drugs to fight rare diseases. Shkreli also opens up about his sister’s own battle with a rare infection, a moment he says first piqued his interest in rare diseases.

“I think I’m the opposite of evil,” Martin says. “It almost became a thing where I wanted to participate in it and say, ‘Yeah I am evil. Let me be the bad guy.’ And I started doing funny and fun stuff that maybe even extended the concept of ‘Yeah sure, I’m evil. I’ll be the Bond villain.'”

After a tense game of chess concludes, Martin plays Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, the one-of-a-kind, never-before-heard Wu-Tang record he purchased last year for $2,000,000. For the first time, Shkreli plays a track off the record for VICE, and muses on the Wu-Tang Clan and the future of the record.

“I think personally I see the GZA and me as like… it sounds silly… I see him in me and I hope vice-versa. He’s like the scientist rapper.” says Shkreli. “I could see myself in a place where I break [the Wu-Tang record], and I’ve seriously considered that. Just snap it in half and bury the remains of it so no one tries to reconstruct it. I’ve seen a world where I give it away for free.”
