Miami is known for its beaches and several local attractions, all of which are worth visiting. However, if you’re looking for places to see and things to do that aren’t on every other tourist’s list, you may be interested in viewing some of the attractions that local residents might like to keep to themselves. From a gorgeous Botanical Garden to a Spanish Monastery and the Coral Castle Museum, you could say that some of the attractions off the beaten path are the ones most worth seeing.

The Miami Beach Botanical Garden

The variety of features at this garden center may astound you. When you’re at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden, you might stroll underneath fragrantly flowering trees and majestic palms. The Japanese garden will leave you feeling both tranquil and refreshed. The collection of orchids is breathtaking, and the wild plants of the native area are a frequent stopping place for both hummingbirds and butterflies.

The Ancient Spanish Monastery

The Ancient Spanish Monastery was rebuilt in Miami in the 1970s after being disassembled on the instruction of its owner, William Randolph Hurst, decades earlier. The halls of this monastery are unforgettably beautiful, and its various structures are rich with history. Viewing the buildings and the grounds could make you feel transported to another time and place.

The Coral Castle Museum

The Coral Castle museum has a mysterious past. The castle was allegedly constructed by one man with a particularly slight frame and build. The building and stone sculptures that lie adjacent to it are fascinating to behold. No matter how Edward Leedskalnin actually happened to build it, this lesser-known landmark is certainly not to be missed.

The Barnacle Historic State Park

This landmark comprises a house built in 1891, as well as the land that surrounds it, which extends to the waters of Biscayne Bay. The house was the residence of Ralph Middleton Munroe, who was an accomplished pioneer and naturalist, as well as a photographer and sailor. The house, named The Barnacle, is the oldest one in Miami Dade County that currently stands in its original location.

The World Erotic Museum (WEAM)

If you enjoy going to museums but sometimes feel that seeing one is just like seeing another, the World Erotic Museum (WEAM) may come as a delightful surprise. This is actually the only museum in the U.S. dedicated entirely to fine erotic art. The collection includes over 4,000 pieces of international art, and some of it even dates back to 300 BC. This museum does not display a crass collection of cheap art; rather, it provides a cultural view of some of the finest erotic art in the world.

Any trip to Miami is sure to be fun – but if you want to view the city through a unique lens, then you’ll need to stay away from the most famous attractions. Instead, make it a point to visit some of the lesser known places in Miami that are well worth seeing. When you do this, you’ll be rewarded with a vacation like no other.
