Do you need to access a windows computer environment from an Apple mobile device? Whether you're trying to connect to a work network or just play a game that doesn't support the Apple platform, knowing how to connect to Windows through your iPad or phone can be useful. And, unlike the days long past, it's not going to require any arcane technological voodoo.

Install Ericom's AccessToGo

Free software programs such as Ericom's AccessToGo make it easier than ever to remote into a device from another platform. Of all RDP solutions, AccessToGo is the most popular and versatile. Simply download the app on your iPhone, iPad or even iPod Touch and you can connect to your Ericom Access enabled computer within minutes. The software has a few major advantages. It has a slick, easy-to-use interface including pinch and swipe commands for faster access, it supports RDP encryption for sensitive data and it's available in a variety of languages.

Not only is the mobile app free, but using an all-around RDP solution allows you to connect to your computers, servers and other supported environments from practically any other platform using the same gateway. This reduces IT headaches and makes it faster and easier for you to connect without having to complete any guesswork or additional setup. AccessToGo is also the fastest RDP client available for Windows, which can be a fantastic boon if you have important business to attend to–or are simply impatient!

Windows Remote Desktop

Microsoft has its own remote desktop utility that can be used on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. To use Windows Remote Desktop, you must first go to the machine that you want to access and enable RDP. This part only needs to be done once, not every time that you need to connect. You can then download the Windows Remote Desktop software solution onto your mobile devices and launch it to connect to Windows remotely. You'll be able to view a mobile-optimized version of your Windows computer environment.

Unfortunately, the Windows Remote Desktop solution has a few user issues that may make it prohibitively difficult to use. Unlike AccessToGo, the Windows RDP app can only use the mouse pointer to navigate rather than swiping, pinching or pulling. This can get tedious, especially on smaller screens as you need to strain to navigate with the minute little arrow. It's also plagued with continued keyboard issues, which make it either difficult or impossible to type. So if you need to navigate or even type, you might find the Windows RDP tool a little lacking.

If you follow the above steps, you should be able to easily connect to any modern Windows system with any updated Apple mobile device. Though there are a few ways to connect, by far the easiest is to simply use the software intended for the task. That way there's no monotonous fiddling with settings, lag or other irritating issues to combat.
