Medical supplies can be difficult to come by in developing countries. It’s hard to imagine, but there are places where people often die because of a lack of access to the most basic medical equipment. Meanwhile in the developed world, we throw millions of tons of usable supplies and equipment into landfills every year.
By simply having a collection bin at a hospital or doctor’s office, those supplies that would otherwise end up in a landfill can make their way to a medical supply recovery organization where they can be sent to those in need overseas. Approximately 85% of hospital waste is noninfectious, and a huge portion of that is only being thrown away because it has expired, too much was ordered, or there are renovations going on.
