Aside for being the season of giving, ‘tis also the season for Christmas parties. Whether it’s the annual office shindig, family gathering or White Elephant gift exchange with the gang, one thing is for sure – spirit and cheer is in the air. Should you decide to throw your very own Christmas Party, here are five must haves that will ensure a ho-ho-ho jolly good time.

  1. Spiked Eggnog

Right at the start of your X-mas bash, serve guests spiked eggnog to take the edge off. Martha Stewart’s classic eggnog recipe is filled with all the tradition and booze you need to warm up friends and/or family for copious amounts of mixing and mingling. Beat together egg yolks and superfine sugar to a thick yet smooth consistency and whisk with whole milk and delicious heavy cream. Then mix in bourbon, rum and Cognac as a complement the milky base. Before serving, whip egg whites and cream until peaks form and fold into the concoction, sprinkling nutmeg atop. A standard and necessary drink for winter festivities, this is the party beverage that’ll do its job in entertaining.

  1. Mistletoe

It’s not Christmas unless there’s mistletoe hanging around somewhere. Place that berry-lined twig near the entrance and encourage attendees to participate in the kiss-under-the-mistletoe custom. It’ll set the tone for the party as well as send off a message that yes, this is in fact a Christmas party and spreading the love is welcomed! Bonus addition: For an extra touch of magic, set a Polaroid Digital Camera nearby so moments with the ‘toe can be captured for a party takeaway in physical form.

  1. Peanut Butter Cookies

Of course there will be holiday ham, wine and cheese, and potatoes a certain way, but what is going to be the wintery treat that’s light but rich and acts as the oh so delectable pick-me-up after a huge dinner feast? Three words: Peanut. Butter. Cookies. The perfect balance of sweet and salty – this is THE cookie to serve during a holiday party. Stir eggs, Planters Creamy Peanut Butter, sugar, peanuts and a touch of vanilla in a large bowl to make the batter, roll into balls, and bake until golden brown. The recipe is simple but the result is a crowd pleaser that will keep the blessings to the chef a-coming.

  1. Christmas Movie Reel (Drinking Game Optional)

Every Christmas party needs entertainment. Try to get everyone involved in an activity that is simple enough to say “yes” to as the food coma starts to sink in. Designate a white wall, rent a projector, and put on a reel of Christmas classics featuring film favorites like A Christmas Story, Home Alone, Bad Santa, Elf and National Lapoon’s Christmas Vacation. It’ll set up a nice mood and ambience for the event to fit the obvious theme. To kick the showing up a notch, pick a coined action or term that repeatedly happens in the movie for guests to drink their eggnog to every time it occurs. For instance, during Home Alone, any time something or someone falls, it’s time to toast! This will give people something to do that’s fun and easy as well as a way to get in the Christmas spirit.

  1. Stuff the Stockings

Stick to giving-mode by stuffing stockings and giving them to everyone in attendance. Some stocking stuffer staples include the usual candy canes and chocolates along with useful iTunes gift cards. For a touch of personalization, cater towards audience demographic by filling those red socks with makeup, cigars, or shot glasses. Creative thoughtfulness is key and will surely be appreciated.

It’s the hap-happiest season of all and most wonderful time of the year. With these five festive ideas to integrate into the Christmas party, you and the guests are in for a full-effect of Christmas cheer and some very merry celebrations.
