Contrary to popular belief, OpenStack doesn’t actually have anything to do with pancakes.  Rather, it is an infrastructure as a service cloud platform that will revolutionize the way businesses use the cloud.  There are already a lot of options out there for the public cloud, but OpenStack will help create private clouds, making cloud access the business choice of the future.

Some of the biggest names in the tech industry have contributed to OpenStack.  Among these are IBM, HP, eBay, and Intel.  In addition to these huge and well-established companies, several companies were formed just to work on OpenStack.  Some of these newer companies are Tesora, CloudWatt, BigSwitch, and SwiftStack, just to name a few.
