They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away. While this isn't 100% true, it does have some basis in reality. Our diet makes up a huge part of how we feel emotionally, mentally, and of course, physically. Many people argue that the first step to curing any illness is a diet redo, not medication.
A vegetarian diet has been shown to reduce blood pressure by about half the drop expected from medication. Not to mention keeping a vegetarian diet is much cheaper than paying for pills and the only side effects are a lowered cholesterol and the possibility of weight loss.
