10 Springtime Tips to Brighten Your Home 1

Now that spring is here, it’s time to spruce up your home and get ready to enjoy the warmer season. It’s time to tackle your list of home improvements. This is the time of year to pay special attention to the outside of your home and shake off your cabin fever.

Here are ten tips to improve your curb appeal and boost your home’s appeal.

1. Check the roof for damage

Winter storms can take their toll on a home’s roof, so it’s crucial to give it a thorough inspection. Climb your ladder and check for any broken, cracked, or missing shingles on the roof. Also look for any other areas that may need repairs. Take care of them now so they don’t grow into something bigger later.

2. Wash your deck

Spruce up your deck or patio by pressure washing the entire space. Once it’s clean and dry, how does it look? Perhaps it needs a fresh coat of deck stain to make it look new again. Check for any loose boards or other damage as well.

3. Shape up your shrubs

Take a good look at your shrubbery and plantings. Could they use a good trimming? Get out your shears and cut back any shrubs or plants that appear overgrown or too close to the outside of your house. This will help your home breathe better while improving your curb appeal. If you feel adventurous, replace old foliage with fresh trees and other attractive plantings.

4. Clean the gutters

Winter probably deposited leaves and other debris in your gutters. Clean them out so they can function properly. As you clean your gutters, don’t neglect the downspouts; there’s sure to be debris in them as well. Make sure your gutters are pointing away from the exterior of the house. Check for any damaged drain pipes or leaks; they may need to be replaced.

5. Fresh paint

Nothing freshens a house like a fresh coat of paint. You can simply repaint your existing color or step out of your comfort zone and get a bit bolder. Choose a color that harmonizes with the rest of your exterior and landscape to make the most impact.

6. Heating and cooling system

Every spring it’s a good idea to have a professional check your heating and cooling system to ensure it’s in proper working order.

7. Springtime tools

It’s time to make sure all your tools are in good shape for the upcoming season. This includes your leaf blower, pruners, and lawnmower. Your lawnmower may need a tune-up if it’s been awhile.

8. Give your windows and widing a once-over

Along with the roof, inspect all your windows and siding for cracks or leaks. Never ignore a crack; it could lead to much greater problems.

9. Walkway and driveway

Spring is the time to seal any notable cracks in either your walkway or driveway. A freshly sealed driveway greatly enhances your curb appeal.

10. Revive your yard

Bring your yard back to life after the long cold winter. Revitalize it by fertilizing and aerating your lawn to ensure it will look its best all summer long. Plant fresh flowers and green plants to punch up your curb appeal and make your home feel warm and welcoming.

By following these springtime tips, you’ll be sure to enjoy your yard all summer long.
