The food/restaurant industry is fiercely competitive—and so it’s important for chains to create competitive advantages. These days chains must invest in a quality mobile strategy. Experts anticipate the mobile payments industry will account for $1 trillion in global transactions by next year. A number of brands have already gotten it right. So, what makes for a successful mobile strategy?

The most important component of mobile restaurants apps is loyalty. The amount of Pinkberry’s in-store transactions that take place via its mobile app is 32 percent. Payment option is another important aspect—Starbucks has 10 million active members generating four million transactions per week. Location-based marketing is also critical—38 percent of U.S. consumers have a mobile coupon to purchase a product in-store. Quiznos’ location-based campaign with Sense Networks led to a 20 percent jump in redemption.
