Golden Retriever puppies are truly man’s best friend. They are extremely affectionate and love to spend time with their families.  In fact, owners of this breed will tell you that they are a shadow dog, following their masters everywhere. However, they are not just a one person dog; they are usually patient with children and exceptionally gentle, though their exuberance may cause them to knock a child over. They will be devoted to everyone in their families.  Unfortunately, they are friendly with nearly everyone, so do not invest in this breed as a guard dog unless you would like them to lick an intruder to death. While they will not attack, they do make a great watchdog as their bark will loudly signal the approach of a stranger.

Golden Retrievers are a large breed dog, standing between 21 – 24 inches high at the shoulder. At adulthood, they should reach a maximum weight between 60 and 75 pounds. Happiest when they are pleasing their masters, they will be easily trained.  Golden Retrievers also make excellent show dogs.  An extremely active dog, they will need daily exercise, which should be both physically and mentally stimulating. As they are retrievers, a few games of fetch will not go amiss. Experts generally recommend Golden Retriever puppies be taken for long walks or jogs. They also love to swim and will jump into water if given the chance.  If they do not get enough exercise, they can become destructive and over-exuberant. They also need their masters to be the pack leader to avoid negative behavior issues.

These dogs are not just raised for family pets; their extremely high level of intelligence allows them to work as service dogs for the disabled, guide dogs for the blind, and police dogs. They have been trained in narcotic detection and as search and rescue dogs.

Golden Retriever puppies are extremely popular. To ensure you are investing in a happy and healthy puppy, search for a reputable breeder who will test their breeding dogs to ensure they do not have genetic diseases  that can easily be passed on to puppies.
