3 Ways to Entertain Your Family and Save Money at the Same Time

Parenting is a tough job. The good news is that for every embarrassing, horrifying, terrible moment there are a dozen wonderful moments that make it completely worthwhile. However, there is one thing you simply cannot change about parenting: Kids are expensive.

Aside from all the necessities that come along with raising your children, you’ll also need to keep them entertained. While their imaginations suffice, sometimes you’ll need to think outside the box and outside your home and yard to keep them from going stir crazy. The good news is you can keep your entire family entertained without spending too much money.

Head to the dollar movie

Many cities feature theaters that show movies that aren’t quite brand new for only a dollar a ticket. Perhaps you have a dollar theater near you or you only have a regular theater that offers a weekly dollar movie for the whole family.

Since movies are so expensive, this is a great option for saving money. Take the kids to the movies when they’re a dollar. Save even more by allowing the kids to pack their own snacks or by purchasing them at a regular store. Sure, it’s frowned upon, but everyone does it.

Have fun dinners in

Instead of spending a fortune on overpriced food and oversized servings at your favorite restaurant, consider making your favorite dishes at home. For example, if you love the unlimited peel-and-eat shrimp at your favorite seafood restaurant, make it at home.

Your family can buy a few pounds of seafood for a lot less than it costs at a restaurant, cook itat home and eat it right at the patio table while the kids play in the yard. The best news is that you can indulge in a second glass of wine or a second beer because no one has to drive home.

Save on home entertainment

Being home is sometimes entertaining enough, especially if your family is into movie night, talking on the phone or playing on the computer. You can keep your family entertained at home for less by bundling your cable, phone and Internet package.

Doing this significantly decreases the cost of your monthly expenses, allowing more funds for more fun, by requiring you pay only one low price instead of three high prices.

Family fun and entertainment are not necessarily expensive. Not every family moment has to be Disney World. You can entertain your family for a lot less money than you think.
