Mr. Rogers closed all 1,765 episodes of his classic children’s show with the unforgettable quote,“You’ve made this day a special day, by just your being you.” This message reached countless children and taught them the importance of self worth and kindness.
When serving as a chairman for a White House forum on child development and mass media, Fred Rogers gave a moving speech to Congress. He spoke about the value of kindness and Congress was so touched that they raised the annual PBS funding from nine million to 21 million. That funding was crucial to supporting Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood, a favorite for millions of children all over the United States.
Fred Rogers passed away in 2003 from stomach cancer, but his lessons of kindness will never be forgotten. Take a look at this infographic for more on the legacy of Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood and tell us what you think in the comments.
