With the holidays upon us, it is time we look at some of the best gift-giving ideas for the 2013 season.

Books

Books are a novel idea; pun intended. Who doesn’t enjoy curling up with a good book in front of a fire on a cold winter’s day? Whether your loved-one’s taste runs fiction or non-fiction, there are plenty of worthwhile books available to choose from this holiday season. Consider new thrillers by John Grisham (Sycamore Row) or James Patterson (Cross My Heart) or Stephen King’s newest chiller, Doctor Sleep. Maybe history is your loved-one’s genre of choice. Perhaps he or she will want to know more about George Washington's Secret Six: The Spy Ring That Saved the American Revolution by Brian Kilmeade and Don Yaeger.

The point is there are books available for all tastes and all occasions, from mangas and graphic novels to coffee table books, with a little consideration you can’t go wrong giving a book as a gift.

Movies and Music

Movies and music, like books, are the perfect gifts for the winter season. On those chilly, snowy days, your loved one can kick back on the couch and watch his or her favorite movie, or don the headphones and listen to his or her favorite music artist. And there is so much to choose from. Given that it is the holidays, maybe you want to consider Blu-ray discs of such perennial favorites as 1947’s Miracle on 34th Street or 1983’s A Christmas Story. If holiday movies aren’t your loved-ones thing, maybe they will enjoy the The Hobbit: Extended Edition or the Twilight saga’s Twilight Forever.

As far as music goes, there have been some engaging box sets released recently from The Band, The Clash, Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, and Eric Clapton.

Again, the point is that there is so much to choose from that you can’t go wrong with giving these types of gifts.

Lenovo’s Yoga Tablet 10

With three usage modes, Lenovo’s Yoga Tablet 10 is perhaps one of the most versatile tablets available to consumers. Hold it, stand it, tilt it, whatever mode you choose, you have powerful computing at your fingertips. The tablet features a cylindrical base which is reminiscent of the folded pages of a magazine. This allows for better grip and maneuverability of the tablet. Browse the web, stream video, or read from your favorite magazine, Lenovo’s Yoga Tablet 10 is one of the premier tablets available on the market.

Tepee

From wolfum.com, why not enjoy an indoor floral pop tepee? It’s perfect for kids who want an indoor fort or for spouses who prefer indoors to the doghouse.

Coffee Set or Wooden Martini Glass

Haand.us offers a collection of its coffee- or tea- service pieces combined with a cherry-wood tray by Christina Boy, a woodworker in Madison County, VA.

If coffee is not your style, audreyroadct.com offers the holy grail of chalices, a WUD martini glass made of black walnut.

Fashion and Jewelry

As kids, we used to hate getting clothes as gifts, especially one of those sweaters our crazy aunt knitted for us that itched to no end. Giving clothes as gifts can do more than free house-elves, though. It lets the recipient know that you care how he or she looks. This can create an intimate bond with the right gift if clothes. Perhaps a nicer sweater than the one knitted by the crazy aunt is in order here.

Jewelry is even more intimate and carries with it even greater meaning. Consider a nice watch or bracelet. This is also the perfect occasion for that ring you have been meaning to give her.

We have tried to provide you when some generic as well as specific gift-giving ideas. We all have that difficult-to-buy-for loved one, but perhaps the ideas contained herein have helped you come up with your own. Just remember, if it comes from the heart, then you can’t go wrong. So good luck to you, and of course, Happy Holidays!
