Prostate Cancer Treatment: Agressive Treatment isn’t Always the Best

Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer related death in American men. Every year 240,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer and are treated by their physicians in the best way possible.

But there are some who say that treatment is far too aggressive. Since only a very small percentage of men die from prostate cancer compared to how many are diagnosed with it. On the other side, there are some who suggest that treatments isn’t aggressive enough. Effectiveness of a treatment depends on many different factors but most importantly it depends on how fast the cancer cells are proliferating. The Polaris test identifies just that and from those measurements can tell doctors how aggressive the cancer is. It combines cell cycle gene expression with standard clinicopathologic parameters. The Polaris test offers a comprehensive guide about the patient from prognosis of disease progression to prostate cancer specific mortality. The information provided from this test gives particular insight that allows doctors and patients to make better informed decisions about the course of treatment.
