Metabolism is the body's ability to digest food and turn it into usable energy. Unfortunately for some of us, a person born with a slow metabolism will burn calories slowly. The speed of your metabolism depends on many factors, including gender and age; men and younger people tend to burn calories at a quicker rate than women and older people do. While you cannot change your age or gender, the good news is that there are a few tricks you can do to speed up your metabolism. This means digesting food quicker, and even increasing your body's ability to burn calories while you are resting! Below are some tips you can use today to help give your metabolism the boost you desire.

Build Some Muscle
The more muscle weight you have, the more calories you will burn throughout the day, even when you are resting. Each and every pound of muscle uses about six of your body's calories a day, just to maintain itself! To put this in perspective, every pound of body fat only needs to use two calories to keep it maintained. This may seem like a trivial difference, but these calories add up over time. To speed up your metabolism and lose more weight, consider incorporating weight and resistance training into your lifestyle, whether it be a few times a week or every day.

Work Your Cardiovascular System
Although aerobic exercises may not build much muscle compared to weight or resistance training, the hours following will keep your metabolism activated and ready to burn more calories. A great trick for increasing your body's metabolism is to get some cardiovascular exercise in the morning, keeping your metabolism high throughout the day.

Snack Instead of Eating Large Meals
When you eat large meals, your metabolism becomes more activated in order to digest the food, but slows down at other times during the day. To keep your metabolism at work throughout the day, try eating smaller meals more often! Furthermore, exchanging a few heavy meals throughout the day for healthy snacking will help you avoid feeling bloated and will make it easier for you to move around, burning more calories!

Eat Metabolism-boosting Foods
There are many types of food that have been shown to increase the body's metabolism. Spicy foods are a great way to stimulate your metabolism and make it work faster. Also note that protein dense foods will take more calories to digest than foods full of fats and carbohydrates.

Drink More Water
You may be getting all the right exercise, but remember, your body utilizes water in the process of converting calories into usable energy. Any semblance of dehydration can cause your body's metabolism to drastically slow down. A great rule of thumb for keeping your metabolism at its peak is to drink at least eight cups of water per day. To make sure you remember, drink a glass of water with every snack or meal. Incorporating fresh fruits and vegetables into your diet, which contain a lot of water in them, will also help your metabolism.

Building muscle, getting aerobic exercise, snacking properly, eating metabolism-boosting foods, drinking plenty of water, and using metabolism boosters from Complete Nutrition are plenty of easy ways that can help you boost your metabolism today!
