The number one killer of life is something you may not have expected—unsafe water. Every year 3.4 million people die from water related diseases. A child dies from a waterborne illness every half a minute. 780 million people lack access to clean water, which is more than double the population of the U.S. The top waterborne killer is diarrhea, which remains the second leading cause of death among small children worldwide. Diarrhea kills more small children than AIDS, malaria and measles combined. A full 88 percent of diarrhea deaths worldwide are attributed to unsafe water, inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene.

WaterStep has stepped up to fight the global water crisis. They train individuals to provide solutions through water treatment, health and hygiene and sanitation. WaterStep has already repaired hundreds of hand pumps, trained over 10,000 people globally in water purification, hand pump repair, health and hygiene, provided access to safe drinking water for over 10 million people and helped bring millions of liters of safe water to 23 countries.
