The Future of Mobility [Infographic]

What does the future hold for cellphone users? With five billion mobile phones in the world, 80% of the world’s population now owns a cellphone. Forty-five percent of Americans are so dependent on  cell phones that they said they couldn't go even a few hours without checking their phones. For a world so addicted to mobile technology, what does the future hold?

Smartphones, of which there are 1.8 billion in the world, are at the forefront of all this groundbreaking technology. New innovations are allowing non-tap gestures to take over the role of touching and pushing buttons. For example, a sidelong glance might pause a video, or simply holding the phone up to your ear will answer the call. Bendable smartphones are also in the works, which will allow people to use the bending and flexing to control the device.

The kind of data that mobile technology can collect is helping to create a safer and healthier global community. For instance, Kenya can track malaria and other diseases and refugees can reconnect with family members they've been separated from. Because of these new developments, mobile commerce is expected to grow to $37.44 billion in 2013.
