Even with a recent loss in Nevada, betting laws changing more and more. It's clear even to the untrained eye that gambling preferences are making a switch from physical to digital, and legislation to support that change is slowly catching up to meet demand.
A Loss for Betting in Nevada Bars
Businesses with restricted gambling licenses are at the mercy of a recently passed bill in Nevada which bans sports betting kiosks. The kiosks make it easy to bet from bars and taverns in the state, but they only account for a small portion of the sports betting industry and the legislation that was passed will not limit sports betting through apps or websites. However, the bill will also limit the number of machines an establishment with a restricted license can keep to 15 and adds new requirements to the minimum size of the building as well as requires that they serve food for at least 12 hours of the day.
Why This Isn't the End for Sports Betting
Although this particular bill ended up being a loss for sports betting kiosks, this certainly isn't the end for sports betting and other alternative forms of gambling. In fact, it's clear that online gambling and even casino apps on smartphones are only going to gain more popularity and, slowly but surely, the legislation to support it.
Currently, there are only a handful of states in the United States which have legalized online real-money gambling. In fact, Nevada just recently launched its first online poker site, an obvious first step towards a future in online gambling. Even with its slow starts, the demand for the convenience and excitement of virtual casino games using real-money.
The Future of Digital Casinos
We can expect to see even more in the news about gambling laws, eventually legalizing online real-money gambling in more states while putting necessary restrictions on both phyisical and digital gambling. Online casinos have the audience and the appeal, with tons of exciting and beautifully made game websites and apps, and it's only a matter of time until the laws and the regulations to protect the privacy of players and companies alike are in place to make online gambling an even hotter trend.
