Who’s winning the battle between speeders and police officers? About a million people get hit with a speeding ticket every day in the U.S., and the cost of the average ticket comes out to $150. Some 16 percent of drivers will get a speeding ticket this year and 95 percent of these drivers will not contest their tickets. The top driving citation states include Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, California, and Texas.
How did it all start? The radar speed gun was invented by Bryce K. Brown of Decatur Electronics in March 1954, and it was first used in Chicago, Illinois a month later. Radar detectors have been helping heavy footed drivers avoid speeding tickets since the 1970s. Police officers use the Spectre ELITE to detect hundreds of radar detector models. This piece of technology is sensitive and adaptable and detects many detectors at nearly 1,000 feet away.
So, what detectors are best for speeders? To find the answer, check out the infographic below.
