The decision to work from home at all is a tricky one. While it suits some people (and the type of work they do) better, for others it can come about as a result of necessity rather than choice. That said, once you have bitten the bullet and decided to move your work to the old home front, you should definitely consider setting up your new office in your garden. Or rather, in a log cabin in your garden. Why, you ask? Consider the following benefits:

Privacy

If you’ve got kids or have to work in the evenings when the whole family’s home, the privacy to be gained from having an entirely separate building all to yourself is invaluable. You can make phone calls with little to no disturbance, and you’re more or less immune to the more annoying sounds of the household; most commercially-sold garden log cabins are soundproof to some extent, so you’ll be free of things like the neighbours’ TV blaring through the walls, the excited chatter from the living room when the kids have friends around, and someone insisting on turning the radio on. Can you imagine having to work at your dining room table with such distractions?

Allows For Greater Work/Home Separation

Most people who work at home have difficulty putting the laptop away and allowing themselves to relax. After all, if you’re accustomed to keeping your nose to the grindstone in your own living room, it can be tricky to let go of that mentality and watch whatever’s on TV. But if your workstation is physically separate from the rest of your house, the resulting mental separation becomes a lot easier.

Energy Efficient

It’s obvious that working from home saves the time and expense of a lengthy commute. But working in a garden log cabin has other energy-saving benefits as well. If you’re the only one at home during the day, it’s a lot cheaper to heat and light a small garden cabin than it is to keep the heating on in your house!

Meets Specific Requirements

When it comes to log cabins, there are tons of different models out there, with design and size specifications that can be tailored to suit your needs. You can therefore set up an office that meets your exact requirements, rather than refurbishing or shifting furniture about in a section of your house. Plus, the additional storage area a log cabin provides means that you don’t have to clutter up your house with shelves or cabinets for all your work materials.

Allows For Household Maintenance

A garden-based office may be even more of a bonus for green-thumbed individuals. Generally, working from home allows you to have a greater hand in keeping the house tidy rather than relegating household chores to the weekend, and setting up an office in your garden gives you an excuse to get out into the sun, do some gardening and maybe even some exercise in between stretches of work. Not to mention the fact that you’ll be home when the plumber comes round instead of having to take the day off or rush home early.
