The Pacific Northwest is an ideal place for photographers of all skill levels. Washington and Oregon have a nearly unlimited selection of breathtaking natural beauty for photographers to choose from. From lush rainforests to rugged mountains to secluded beaches, the choices for excellent photographs can be overwhelming. Here is a list of some popular spots for foolproof amazing photographs.

Deception Pass State Park, Whidbey Island
Deception Pass is one of the most popular state parks in Washington, and for good reason. The views from this park are one of a kind. For photographers Deception Pass offers a wealth of subjects: numerous bald eagles, pods of orcas in the bay, views of the bridge and pass, old growth forests, rugged beaches, and placid Cranberry Lake. A photographer could spend a weekend at Deception Pass State Park and never run out of new subjects to photograph.

Pike Place Market, Downtown Seattle
Pike Place Market has been a popular tourist destination for over a hundred years. The variety of items for sale, the street entertainers, and of course, the fish flying in the air at the fish market all make this a vibrant place to take exceptional photographs. Again, there is nearly unlimited material to work with for photographers of all levels. Pike Place's numerous goods make beautiful still life subject matter. The employees and visitors provide a wealth of material for photographers who specialize in portraits of people.

The Historical Bridges of Oregon
When the first highway was built in Oregon in the 1930s, engineer Condee B. McCullough created beautiful bridges to span the rivers and gorges along the route. Today these bridges are found throughout the state and provide beautiful architectural backdrops for photographers. Some of the most photographed include the Astoria Bridge and the Rogue River Bridges, but all of these historical bridges are spectacular in their own right. Each bridge is unique, with some being made of steel and others of natural stone from the area. A drive down Highway 1 will cross many of the most breathtaking bridges in Oregon.

Skagit Valley Tulip Fields
In the late spring the Skagit Valley turns into a photographer's dream with vast fields of tulips of all colors. Visitors from around the world come to see the endless flower fields. Photographers can find stunning views of the huge fields, or intimate close ups of individual flowers. Tulip growers are also happy to chat with guests and talk about their flowers and fields during the annual festival in late April.

Olympic National Park
It is nearly impossible to take a bad picture at Olympic National Park. Begin your journey with a ferry ride across to the Olympic Peninsula and take photos of whales, dolphins, seabirds, and the amazing snowcapped Olympic Mountains as you approach from the water. When you arrive at the park there is a wealth of photographic opportunities. The park has several distinct ecosystems, all accessible by well-maintained hiking trails. Photographers can capture everything from waterfalls and rain forests to temperate forests to sub-alpine landforms. The beaches are wild and full of driftwood and rocks and make great photographic subjects. For those interested in animals, Olympic National Park has hundreds of varieties of birds, some found nowhere else in the United States. Of course, the Olympic Mountains provide a magnificent backdrop, making ordinary photos look amazing.
