Women are becoming big time bosses in the business world. Before we get there, female applicants in MBA programs increased from 31 percent in 2011 to 43 percent in 2012. In 2011, 46 percent of all MBA degrees were earned by women, and from 1997-2011, the number of women earning MBA degrees has increased by 75 percent. What are the top five fields female MBA grads want to enter? They include marketing and advertising, consumer goods, government and public service, entertainment, media, and public relations, and health care, retail, fashion, and apparel. However, women do place tremendous value in employers that have a strong reputation, high ethical standards, and a high level of social responsibility.

It’s refreshing to see that female MBA grads are closing the pay gap—in 2013, these grads are earning 93 cents for every dollar earned by their male co-workers. Female CEOs now run some of America’s largest companies, including Yahoo!, HP, AVON, TIME INC., IBM, and SAM’S Club.
