Why American Internet is Lagging? [Infographic]

Think the internet in your house is fast? If you live in the United States, think again – it turns out that internet speeds in the US rank 11^th in the world, with average download speeds clocking in at less than 50% the speeds in countries like Hong Kong, Andorra and Singapore! Not only that, but people in the States pay more per month than people in many other countries, even for considerably slower speeds.

Worst of all, 10% of people don't even have access to basic broadband – a problem that may not be going away soon. According to one provider, the cost of upgrading capacity ($750,000 for a new DSL terminal, for instance) is simply not worth it if there aren't enough subscribers. Unfortunately, internet access is becoming more and more important, providing opportunities for a good education and job applications.
