The Future of Light Design and Electricity Use

We have probably all heard that LED lights are the best option in lighting solutions for those of us who are eco-conscious. However, these bulbs have been around for a while, and many people are looking for the next big thing in lighting.

Go to the fair

I’m not kidding – there is an international LightFair that is dedicated to displaying the forefront of lighting technology and design. It’s pretty impressive and it’s nice to know that there are more lighting options than line the shelves at Lowe’s.  The fair is an annual trade show, and it showcases the emerging technologies in a variety of fields, including architecture, landscaping, and of course, lighting engineers. This year it’s in Philadelphia, but it rotates locations across the United States. It is the premiere North American showcase for this type of technology.

Check out solar options

The traditional way of conceptualizing electricity is that the energy has to be created and then we get it by flipping a switch or plugging a cord into the socket (my laptop and phone are plugged in right now, actually). But there are a lot of people in the world who don’t have that luxury – it takes a huge infrastructure to be able to provide consistent electricity. However, solar energy is making a great impact for those people who don’t have access. Solar power is trending and it’s possible to buy solar power iPad cases and even solar powered backpacks to charge phones and cameras and such, but several companies are using solar power to make a big difference by providing a range of lights and lanterns to those citizens. These lights are portable, free after purchase, and they only need the sun to charge. These lights are eco-conscious and they provide light and opportunity to those who need it most.

LED signs for businesses

It’s important to remember that the business sector can definitely use lights as well. LED display signs have come a long way from simply flashing “Open” or “Closed”, and they can be personalized to any business. These are great supplemental signs to place under or around the existing business sign. For those who have the budget, online lighting stores sell many designs that can be tricked out to make even more of an impact. It’s important to consider the market and customer base, of course, but no matter what type of business it is, an LED sign can be crafted to send the correct message.  Businesses need to be able to pull customers off of the street and the sidewalk, and LED signs can be a great way to achieve this goal. They are quick and easy for the customers to read and can definitely grab the impulse shoppers.
