7 Foods That Will Make Any Baby Gassy

A crying baby isn’t a good situation for anyone. Everyone wants to help the baby, but it’s hard to tell what the cause it. Sometimes it seems like nothing will help. A very common reason for an upset infant is simple gas. New parents may be surprised by how often this problem occurs. This can happen because of undigested food or by swallowing too much air while eating or crying. The causes are pretty simple, but the result can be a lot of discomfort for a baby. Luckily there are some things parents can do to prevent and relieve their child’s gas or upset stomach.

Foods to Look Out For

Stopping the problem at the source is usually the best solution. When an infant is breastfeeding, it receives all of its nutrients from its mother. This means that the food the mom eats is ultimately passed onto the baby. When a child is old enough to eat solid foods, the effects of those foods are even more direct. Here are some foods to avoid or at least have in moderation when mom is breastfeeding and baby is eating solid foods.

Foods that produce gas:

  1. Leafy Greens
  2. Milk
  3. Cheese
  4. Yogurt

Foods that can irritate a baby’s stomach:

  1. Citrus Fruits and Juices
  2. Tomatoes
  3. Strawberries

What to Do to Relieve an Infant’s Gas

Even when certain foods are avoided, gas can still happen. While nursing, a baby can take in a lot of air bubbles along with the milk. That air builds up in their stomach and causes added pressure.
